Sirena ( Chamorro Mermaid Tale )

Sirena read by Zane Oak
The story of Sirena is from Guam, an unincorporated U.S. territory in the Pacific Ocean. It is a well-known and much loved figure in Chamorro culture. While it is true that Guam was once colonized by the Spanish, and thus some could argue that the Sirena story is based in Spanish tales about las sirenas, it diverges from typical European tales of mermaids by the fact that it is not  about a human-mermaid encounter, but a cautionary tale about the negative conesequences of not attending to one's responsibilities.
